There are many songs and singers walking the streets of Yangon, Myanmar. There are the songs of prayer, sung by female monks.
At each bus stop, ticket salesmen melodically call out where the busses are going. A young man sings in residential streets, offering to buy old mattresses.
Then there are the songs of sweet drinks and broom salesmen.
Each song – from old mattresses to brooms – is almost exactly the same throughout the entire city. Ask a local Yangon resident and they’ll probably be able to sing the melody to you – Yangon’s Street Songs!
An acoustic performance of Gold, which is a holi song, sung by Nimisha Shankar. Nimisha is a classically trained Indian singer, living in Bangalore at the time of this recording.
