Theyyam is popular in the northern part of Kerala, India. The major difference in Theyyam and other ritualistic dances in Kerala is that the performers channel the god they represent for a time during the ritual. There are hundreds of different performances and gods. A Theyyam festival can last up to several days with performer following performer – similar to a music festival in the West. This performance started about 4 in the morning.
